    Today: After a chilly start the morning will be fine with some sunshine. Showers will develop by midday and could be heavy at times during the afternoon with perhaps some thunder. With light winds it should feel pleasant in any sunshine.
    Tonight: Showers will die away during the evening to leave a dry start to the night. Cloud will thicken in the early hours with some patchy rain near coasts by dawn.
    FURTHER OUTLOOK:
    Friday: A different day with cloudy skies and some occasional light rain or drizzle at times. The north to northeasterly wind will make it feel cool. Maximum temperature 12 deg C (54 deg F). Outlook for Saturday to Monday: An unsettled few days with a period of rain likely during Saturday. Drier and perhaps a little brighter on Sunday before further rain spreads back in on Monday.

    Today: Everywhere will have a wet start. Some of the rain will be heavy and it may turn very showery in nature before clearing away northeastwards during the afternoon. That will leave much brighter skies with just a few showers.
    Tonight: Any evening showers will die away to leave a dry night. It will be quite cold with some mist forming by dawn and a widespread ground frost in rural areas.

    FURTHER OUTLOOK:
    Thursday: Any mist or fog will clear to leave a dry and sunny morning. Cloud will develop with a few afternoon showers. With light winds it should feel fairly pleasant. Maximum temperature 14 deg C (57 deg F).
    Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Some wet and windy weather likely for both Friday and Saturday and feeling quite cold. Sunshine and a few showers on Sunday and feeling warmer.

  13. Renewed police appeal for missing Wakefield man Kevin Judge :
    The search for a missing great-grandfather has entered its second month.
    Kevin Judge was last seen at 12.30pm on Monday, April 15, after being dropped off near his Lupset home on Esther Avenue by a taxi.
    The 68-year-old has not been seen since.
    Anyone with any information should contact police on 101.

  21. Five hurt in south kirkby:
    Five people were hospitalised after a head-on collision in South Kirkby today (Saturday).
    One man was air-lifted to hospital by helicopter after being cut free following the crash on Broad Lane at 4.50pm.
    The other our were taken to hospital by ambulance.
    Crews from Featherstone and Castleford attended the accident scene together with paramedics and police.

  61. Reward for VW camper van stolen from West Bridgford:
    A £2,500 reward has been offered for the safe return of a stolen camper van which has been missing for a month.
    The Humphreys family said the 1966 split windscreen VW was "like another baby" and they are struggling emotionally to deal with the theft.
    They bought the rare van, called Lizzy Beth, for £9,100 and spent six years and over £40,000 restoring it.

  72. Texas Waco fertiliser plant blast search for survivors:
    Emergency services are searching for survivors after a blast at a fertiliser plant in the US state of Texas killed between five and 15 people.
    More than 160 people were injured and dozens of buildings destroyed in the town of West, near Waco.
    Three or four volunteer firefighters are among the missing after the explosion, which produced a tremor equivalent to a small earthquake.
    Emergency services officials said ammonia may have caused the explosion.

    Winds are expected to strengthen this evening, initially across Irish Sea coastal areas of northwest Wales, northwest England and the far southwest of Scotland, where gusts of 60 to 65mph are likely. This swathe of strong winds will then transfer eastwards across other parts of northern England (and perhaps the far south of Scotland) overnight and early on Thursday morning. Inland gusts of 40 to 50mph are expected widely, with 60 to 65 mph gusts possible across (and perhaps locally to the east of) high ground.
    The public should be aware of the potential for some localised disruption to travel.

  91. Armed Leeds post office robbery foiled by police and public:
    ROBBERS armed with hammers were foiled by brave police and members of the public when they stormed a Leeds post office.
    The two raiders forced their way behind the counter at the post office on Station Road, Burley-in-Wharfedale, just after 5pm on Monday. (April 15) The two men, wearing balaclavas and armed with a sledgehammer and a lump hammer, stole a small quantity of cash.

  94. Detectives investigating the murder of a Normanton man have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
    Ryan Carruthers, 31, was killed in the early hours of Sunday at a flat on Smirthwaite View.
    It is believed he was seen outside The Junction pub in Normanton with two other men chatting to a group of girls at around 1am on Sunday.
    Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw or spoke to Mr Carruthers.
    In particular they are trying to trace a white man, who was aged in his 20s, of medium build with short, dark hair.
    He was wearing a round neck jumper and jeans.
